The British & Colonial Aeroplane Company (BCAC) first used the Bristol Scroll as its emblem in around 1910, just as Bristol-built planes were taking to the skies for the first time. Established by Sir George White (1854-1916) BCAC later became the Bristol Aeroplane Company and another Sir George White business - the Bristol Tramways & Carriage Company Ltd (BT&CC) - also carried the scroll symbol on its engines, trams and taxi cabs. BT&CC eventually became part of the Bristol Omnibus Company, where from 1965 the scroll became a well-loved and common sight on Bristol's fleet of green buses.
